Mr. Mercedes: A Novel
This is my first time reading a novel from Stephen King. I just finished the first few pages that described the event that set the beginning of Chapter one in the book, which is summarized in the first paragraph of the book summary on the book jacket. At this moment, I don't know why this book is loved by so many.
Chapter 1: A retired cop Bill Hodges was sitting in his lazy boy at home, watching the afternoon talk shows (may be Jerry Springer and Judge Judy?) while stroking his revolver. While Bill Hodges was making a lot of inner criticism and judgement against the TV talk shows hosts and their guests, a pile of mail was pushed through the mail slot through his door. The thud made by the mail was what caused Bill to turn his head away from his TV, and this is what made me put down the book. Most of the pages are descriptions of the afternoon talk shows’ hosts and their guests. I don’t need to read a Chapter on the recap of Jerry Springer and Judge Judy. I’m not feeling any suspense after this Chapter.
