Christmas Angels: Gabriel's Angel / First Impressions by Nora Roberts

Christmas Angels: Gabriel's Angel / First Impressions by Nora Roberts

This is the first book that I checked out from the library in 2021! Happy reading for the New Year, everybody!! Call me shallow but  I like this book more than the other book that I have been trying to finish reading since last year.

Supper Menu inspired by pg. 23 of this book (The meal that Laura made for Gabe on their first meeting):
Laura seemed to also enjoy hot chocolate.  So I often made one when I have time to sit down to continue my reading of this book.

  1. This is where I just read in the first story of this book: Gabriel's Angel: A very pregnant Laura Malone met the wealthy and famous painter Gabriel Bradley in a traffic accident during a snow storm in a mountain road. Gabriel provided temporary shelter to Laura in his cabin to wait out the storm after her car was wrecked. As the two were stranded alone in the cabin, Laura's inner thought told me that she was running from someone and something. Now this is the cliff hanger that makes me want to keep reading.... Interestingly, I had previously read other romance novels ("A Family Affair" and "Wait for Me" ) in which the boy and the girl also were snowed in a cabin where they got to know each other and began to develop a love bond. The girl in "Wait for Me" was also in a car wreck in a snow storm where the boy came to her rescue and took her to his cabin.

So I guess, if a woman wants to meet her soul mate, she should consider driving out in a snow storm, in the middle of nowhere, to try her luck:)

  2. In Chapter 2, I learned that Laura used to be a model before she got married. She had a nightmare in the cabin and Gabe went to comfort her. He learned that Laura's husband died and she was actually running from her rich and powerful in-laws who wanted her baby. Gabe offered Laura pay and room and board in exchange for her being his model in his drawing. Laura accepted and through tender conversations here and there, she and Gabe began to fall for each other....

  3. Chapter 3: There is not much in here. It's just another Chapter where Gabe and Laura were locked down in a cabin with each other. The more time Gabe spent on drawing the pregnant Laura, the more the two became attracted to each other and they finally had their first kiss. This Chapter is mostly filled with the inner thoughts and feelings of the couple as they analyzed their situation and studied each other.

  4. Chapter 4: The police finally visited Gabe to inquire about Laura's wrecked car. Feeling protective of Laura, Gabe told the police that Laura was his wife. This gave Laura the trust to later confide to Gabe her past. It turned out that Laura briefly worked as a fashion model and married a very abusive guy in Paris. He was from a very wealthy and powerful family in Boston. Her alcoholic, abusive and cheating husband later died in a car crash. His wealthy parents demanded that Laura handed over her baby to them once he was born, in lieu of a cash payout. They threatened Laura that she would lose everything if she didn't accept their offer. Out of fear, Laura ran away and she ran into Gabe. Gabe recognized the prominent names of Laura's in-laws', and he offered to marry Laura so she could be in a social position equal to her in-laws, to fight for custody.

  5. Chapter 5: Gabe proposed to Laura and she accepted. Gabe then quickly went to town to get the wedding supplies and find an elderly couple who could legally officiate his marriage with Laura. The wedding happened very quickly without a fuss, and Gabe helped Laura give birth in the cabin that very same night because the baby came one month early. Gabe named the baby Michael, in memory of his dead brother. From meeting to “falling in love” to marriage to having a child, this has to be one of the speediest courtships that I read in fictions.
