Martha Stewart's Quick Cook Menus : Fifty-Two Meals You Can Make in under an Hour

Another book that I found by digging into this big moving box full of my mom-in-law's books that I inherited from her. Every time when I fish out a book from this box, it's always a pleasant surprise. Click here to read a page: )

A Family Affair

This is my second ebook that I downloaded from Amazon for free . All my ebooks so far are freebies from Amazon, because I prefer to have real physical books when I have to spend my money, at least at this moment. This book is about a small town romance and it's a decent book to have on my phone to kill time while waiting for something.  It's not a page turner and it only took me 6 months to finish reading it.  But it does what a heart-warming easy-to-read romance novel is supposed to do.  I find this book a decent read, even though it's not on the list of "my most favorites".

The Cook's Bible and The Dessert Bible Box Set: The Best of American Home Cooking

Image
I bought this box set brand new today at US$9.98 at the sale in my local bookstore.  I'm apparently buying more books than I get rid of them .  Theoretically, I should stop making new purchase of books. But I can't help it.

Big Book of Garden Designs

Image
According to the rule of decluttering, I'm supposed to get rid of this book because I'm currently living in a rental apartment that doesn't have any yard to garden.  I bought this book when I was looking for a house to buy and I thought this book would come in handy when I have a house with a yard.  But after many months' house hunting, I gave up because I realized I couldn't afford the price of a single-family home.  Growing up, nobody ever  told me buying a home could be so beyond reach.  I wish my parents had warned me. I wish my teachers in my K-12 years told me, and I certainly wish the economics classes that I took in college had shown me. But no, my entire childhood and young adulthood, I thought buying a house was just a natural step in the process of growing up, as natural as getting boobs.  Little did I anticipate that I could grow up and not be able to afford a house.  I have since come to terms with it  and I have since learnt how to  "semi-happi

US Weekly Magazine May 16, 2016 Issue

My girlfriend who, unlike me, is a "working girl".  She receives this magazine in her office for free every week even though this isn't her type of reading.  When I saw her put a box of these unread magazines next to the trash can in her office,  I asked her if I could have them and she was happy to give them to me.  I found the headlines comical and I always got a good laugh reading the hilarious comments on "Fashion Police".  I'm now giving away the above magazine to make space on my bookshelf. To participate in this giveaway, 1) Follow me on Twitter or share this post on the social media you are active on, and 2) fill out the following form. I will give the magazine to whoever who resides in the USA who fills out the form first before 5/31/2020. I will contact the winner by email. Meanwhile, you can click here to read a page . A Daybook of Prayer

Image
I'm not religious, I find going to church boring and I find it even more boring when I had to read the  bible or listen to the pastor read the bible.   But I somehow enjoy this prayer book .  I'm "trying" to read a prayer from this daily .  I just read one for today, " Your healing touch, O Lamb of God, makes me whole. Your are everything  that I need. Amen."  I may have my doubts about the bible, but I do recognize  the fact that the human body has  its own healing power (immunity) is on its own  a miracle that I had experienced many times in my life, e.g. , recently I recovered from a really nasty cold that lasted from mid April to mid May.  I felt so tortured by it. But somehow my body's immune system won again and, without the help of a doctor or medical science, just on its own. Of course, I did give myself a lot of rest and a lot of orange juice and  chicken soup.  But besides my parents who gave me my genes and therefore my immunity, who should

Wow, what a road trip! It makes me want to pack up, rent an RV and just go. But I can't because I just can't take off an a whim anymore without regard to my family. Well, in the meantime, I just have to put this sort of trip on my bucket list of things to do before I die.  Reading this book reminds me of Borders Books & Music because this book was purchased there.  I miss this bookstore so much because I spent a lot of time hanging out there.

Sheet Pan Suppers: 120 Recipes for Simple, Surprising, Hands-Off Meals Straight from the Oven

Excerpt from the book: " Margarine is gross - get rid of that stuff. Use butter. To cook and bake, unsalted butter is best .  We don't know how much salt is in salted butter and it varies from brand to brand anyway, so using unsalted butter takes the unknown out of the equation and lets us control the amount of salt we add to our recipes. Salted butter is good on toasts though. " I can't agree with this book more!  I was going to buy this cookbook, but thanks to my local library, I don't  have to add to my cookbooks clutter .

The WSJ Guide to the 50 Economic Indicators That Really Matter

Image
I inherited this book from my mom-in-law. I'm not sure how good this book is because my mom-in-law passed away with no money left behind for my husband and I, just her books and things....May be she hadn't applied what she read from this book. God Knows... But I want to read it myself to see if it will help me improve my financial situation.  There is however one universal economic indicatior that I know for sure without reading this book, that is,  the higher the rent, the better access to  good restaurants, and the more dining choice there is in the neighborhood, and therefore the higher  demand for housing in the neighborhood. I'll give this book away when  I'm done. Follow me for updates .

The Silver Suitcase

I just checked out the digital copy of this book from my local library's ebooks because the pretty cover makes me want to read the story. I normally don't like reading ebooks but I'm too lazy to make my trip to the library to check out the print copy.  This is the second ebook that I'm reading in my life. At this point, I've realized that one advantage that ebooks have over printed books is that ebook can be read in the dark, on a big computer screen, making it easier to read in the evening when interior lights are dim. But whether I'm reading a printed book or an ebook, concentration is a challenge for me.  It's very hard for me to hold my attention when I'm reading, particularly when I'm reading fictions.  This is why I had read only a few books of fictions in my entire life, not counting the ones that were the required readings during my K-12 education. So, this is another book which tests my attention span.  So far, I don't know what t

Homemade in No Time

This book is just like what the book title says. I really enjoyed the easy recipes in this book. I had given this book away to a friend who loved the Italian Cheese Cups that I made from this book and brought to a potluck. She asked for the recipe and I gave her this book to make space on my bookshelf. It was a win-win situation. I do miss this book and I have gifter's remorse. But well, I read it, I cooked some great food out of it, and now I have a few more inches on my bookshelf. Giving away a book that I like is never easy for me but there are just too many books that I like that I'm clinging on to. I'm writing this post because I'm staring at my very cluttered book shelves and feeling frustrated that I'm not making any progress in decluttering. This is to remind me that I had given away a book that I like before, I can do it again. I want to assure myself that I'm not a hoarder yet because a hoarder will never give away a beloved book like I did. O
